Parents are asking how they can help their student. You can ask the student to show you the prefix/root flashcards and then test the student on the defintions.

You can check their understanding of the vocabulary words each week and make sure they do the review page at the end of every three lessons.

You can check K12 homework if the Powergrade shows you that your student is missing assignments.

 You can ask to see the English binder and check for organization.  You can also check the returned papers to see what is the student weakness and strength.

When I return essays, there is a rubric attached that shows the criteria for the grade.  Students put all essays and essay-type writing into a red folder in the classroom, but you may ask to see any paper.  They may go to the red folders at any time.  These essays and writings are being saved for their portfolio at the end of the year.

If there is a problem with grammar students should come to see me after school for fifteen or twenty minutes.  They just need to check that I will be there and not at a meeting.

Student homework is listed here for the week.

 Vocabulary pages for a new lesson are due each Monday throughout the year.  For the first semester, students have five or six prefixes/roots to learn each week.  These MUST be memorized, and parents can help by asking their student how he/she is memorizing the definiton of each prefix/root.

Students' grades are posted on Powergrade and are updated by Tuesday night each week.  Any question or concerns should be emailed to me asap. If you do not receive a reply, please assume that I did not receive your email.  My address is fpredny@marianchs.com. 

late homework policy

There will be a reducation of 50% of the grade if the assignment is turned in one day late, and it will not be accepted beyond one day late.  If a student is absent due to illness, the student has one day per day absent day to turn in the assignment, but this site should be checked for assignments and long range assignments should be turned in when the student returns.  If a test was announced prior to an absence, the student will take the test on the day he/she returns.  If a student is absent on a test day, the student must make arrangements for a make-up test within one week.

 Students should contact me for extra help.  I wil be available in room 108 after school.

Students should keep all returned papers in their English binder until the end of the semester.
